Merit Spaces is led by Keith Perkins who brings over 30 years of experience to our construction and development division. Keith has developed and project managed a plethora of projects from designing and building single dwellings, multiple unit developments, blocks of flats, basements, extensions, orangeries and remodelling existing spaces. He has hand picked a team of the most experienced and knowledgeable people within their field to assist him in delivering the ultimate Merit experience.
Having spent over 30 years in the construction industry I have learnt many valuable lessons. These lessons have enabled me to be honest through knowledge and find solutions NOT problems. I look forward to the next 30 years with as much enthusiasm.
Project Manager – ICIOB, NEBOSH, BSc (Hons) Construction & Commercial Management
Damien’s day-to-day role is manging projects from conception to completion, assisting with pre-construction management from initial tender enquiry through to award of contract and commencing onsite.
Damien has 20 years of experience within the construction industry in various projects covering large new build construction, commercial fitout, cut and carve remodelling, education and health sectors. Beginning his career as a carpenter (advanced City & Guilds apprenticeship) he progressed through to project management whilst completing a piloting rotation degree with Kier Major Projects over a five-year period. The rotation allowed valuable experience to be gained within the following departments Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Operations, Site Engineering, Aftercare, Design and Procurement. Damien utilises this invaluable experience to implement and control the detailed planning, coordination and delivery of building projects ranging in value from 500K to 200 million over the last 20 years. Damien prides himself on delivering projects on time and on budget, ensuring all specifications are met to the highest standards and prides himself on building strong relationships with both clients, architects and a robust supply chain
Damien is committed to developing his professional qualifications and in addition to his degree, he is a member of the Chartered institute of Building, currently ICIOB status and completing his Personal Development Plan to achieve full MCIOB status. He has recently completed his NEBOSH qualification.
Contracts and Operations Manager (IOSH Managing Safety)
Dean holds overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of Merit Spaces site operatives, supporting our Site Managers in ensuring projects are completed to the highest specification, on schedule and within budget.
Dean has worked in the residential and commercial arena for over 25 years’, gaining extensive experience in all areas of the construction process. Throughout his career, Dean has specialised in carpentry, glazing and aluminium products in addition to remodelling, refurbing, building and extending properties (both single dwellings and developments). He has managed a plethora of projects through this time, adopting the roles of Site Manager, Contracts Manager and Operations Manager. Dean holds the 3-day First Aid certificate and has achieved IOSH Managing Safety.
Senior Site Manager - Residential Projects
Nigel is a highly skilled Site Manager with over 30 years of experience. To compliment his excellent organisational and managements skills, Nigel has extensive knowledge of all aspects of the construction process including understanding technical drawings, ground works, plumbing, electrical, roof, carpentry, brickwork, plastering and steel works.
Nigel has a thorough understanding of health and safety issues and is responsible for ensuring industry standards and regulations are met on-site.
Senior Site Manager – Commercial Projects
Brian has 36 years experience within the office interior refurbishment sector. His wealth of expertise includes designing, specifying and implementing CAT A and B fit outs for a wide range of blue chip companies, to working with SMEs and property owners.
Our key objective is to meet our clients needs on each individual project. To this end, Brian is flexible in his approach and adopting a 'can do' attitude. He can lead his team as the main contractor on a project or work harminously with an external team as a domestic sub-contractor.
Previous projects have included the restack of a 21 storey multi-use, multi-tenanted building and a 5 year term contract for British Telecom incorporating all of their South of England property portfolio .
Plumbing & Heating
Matt manages all the plumbing and heating aspects of a project including design planning, estimating and installation. He ensures all members of the on-site team are assuming best practice as well as adhering to our Health & Safety policy and all the necessary external regulations. Matt has over 10 years’ experience in the plumbing and heating industry including bathroom installation and design, underfloor heating installation and design and boiler installation and servicing. He holds a diploma in Plumbing and Heating Level 2 and has both domestic and commercial gas qualifications.
Quantity Surveyor/Estimator (MCIOB)
Toby brings over 31 years of experience in the building industry including main contracting, subcontracting and spec development sectors. He has run many large and prestigious projects across London and the South East working with many prolific contractors including Wimpey Construction, Birse Construction, Ballast Wilshier, Jarvis Construction. Toby has specialised in quantity surveying and estimating for the last 17 years consolidating burgeoning relationships with many valued clients.
Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Alfie has worked part-time for the Merit Group for over 2 years gaining practical experience on-site as well as completing work experience at our head office in the accounts department. Following the successful completion of his A-Levels, we were delighted to welcome Alfie to the Merit Spaces division on a permanent basis as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
He is currently in Year 1 of a BSc Hons Quantity Surveying course at The University of Greenwich. Studying part-time allows Alfie to consolidate his learning through practical experience gained in the office and on-site. Under Toby’s guidance, Alfie shadows senior members on all areas of the business to gain a solid foundation of the construction industry and how it works.

Thelma liaises with architects on tendering opportunities across the residential and commercial sectors providing the team with valuable opportunities.
